Colette's Find

Colette was playing in our backyard the other day and happened upon this nest. It is under some longer grass fairly close to the house right near my kitchen window. I have no idea how Sara and Ozzie (our neighbors dog and Sara's best friend) didn't stumble upon it, but we are glad they didn't. There are 4 little eggs in there and the Mama bird was very nervous yesterday on the fourth because we were in the backyard having a picnic. Jim had said he has mowed over that spot and still didn't disturb it. Now that we know it is there and there is new life about to emerge, we are going to leave it alone and let Mother Nature and Mother Bird have every advantage to get those little ones out safely. According to Uncle Jim and some photos on the internet, it looks like they are junco eggs.

So cool!
I assumed Juncos laid eggs in nests in trees. The only bird around here that I know of that lays eggs on the ground is killdeer.
Either way, very cool find Colette!
