Update on Growing Kids!

Today July 20, 2009

Christmas 2006, look how little they were!

Colette was asking me tonight how tall I thought she was. I gave her a quick sizing up and figured around 5' or 5' 1". This wasn't an adequate enough assessment though, just eyeballing her, we HAD to know her exact height. So, we had her stand against the wall in stocking feet, Jim marked the spot and then brought out the tape measure to figure out her vertical quotient. My estimate was way off. She is actually, at 11 years, 10 months and 3 days old 5' 3 1/2" tall. Wow!! Impressive. Actually when Jim told me, my exact words were "WHAT???" in quite a loud voice. I couldn't believe it.

Then we measured Ian. At 14 years, 9 months and 12 days old, he is 5' 6 1/2" tall. I was next and am just ahead of my own children at 5' 9 1/4" tall. I actually think I am shrinking, because I have always said I was 5' 10". Perhaps I was rounding up to flatter myself. It does seem likely, but now the truth is out and I am only 5' 9 1/4" tall. Bummer. Oh well, I am still taller than them, but for how long? Time will tell. The way they are eating, it shouldn't be too long before they surpass dear old Mom.

You need to tie some bricks to their heads.

How do I know that? Because my parents never did that to me and look what happened.

I always thought you were 5'11" tall!

I can't believe how tall they are getting, nor how old, wow.

Hey Margy, I think maybe you're shrinking!

Coco looked shockingly mature in that evening gown last night. When I left, I noted that she was still wearing it, but I was relieved to see she was heading out to play in the sand box.

Bop-Op,

She is definitely riding the rails between being a kid and being a teenager. I vote for being a kid a bit longer!!
